Frequently asked questions

What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a healthcare membership that gives you direct access to your primary care provider for one affordable monthly fee. Instead of paying copays for each visit, members receive convenient access to primary care, same- or next-day appointments when available, secure messaging, prescription management, and ongoing care.

Is Elevate Wellness a telemedicine-only primary care practice?

Yes. Elevate Wellness is a telemedicine-based Direct Primary Care practice, providing comprehensive virtual primary care for adults and children (ages 2+) in Texas, Colorado, and Utah. All appointments are conducted securely online, allowing you to receive care from the comfort of your home, office, or while traveling within the states we serve.

Can an online provider be my primary care provider?

Yes. Many healthcare concerns can be safely managed through telemedicine. Elevate Wellness provides ongoing primary care, preventive care, chronic disease management, medication management, women's health, men's health, weight management, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), mental health, and treatment for many common illnesses—all through secure virtual visits.

If you need laboratory testing, imaging, or an in-person evaluation, we'll guide you through the next steps and coordinate your care.

Do you accept insurance?

We don't bill insurance for our membership or virtual visits. Instead, Elevate Wellness uses a Direct Primary Care (DPC) model, which allows us to offer affordable, personalized care without the limitations and administrative burden of insurance billing.

You can still use your insurance for things like lab work, imaging, specialist appointments, prescription medications, hospital care, and other services outside of your membership.

Many patients find this approach gives them better access to their provider, more time during appointments, and more predictable healthcare costs.

Can I become a patient if I have Medicare or other insurance?

At this time, Elevate Wellness is not accepting patients with Medicare due to Medicare regulations governing Direct Primary Care practices. However, we welcome patients with most commercial insurance plans, Medicaid, TRICARE, and those who are uninsured. Elevate Wellness does not bill insurance for membership or virtual visits, however, patients may continue to use their insurance for services outside of their membership, such as laboratory testing, imaging, specialist visits, hospital care, and prescription medications when applicable.

Can I use my HSA to pay for my membership?

In many cases, yes. Many patients use Health Savings Account (HSA) funds to pay for their DPC membership, but eligibility ultimately depends on your individual HSA plan and applicable IRS rules. We recommend checking with your HSA administrator if you have questions about your specific account.

Do you prescribe medications?

Yes. When medically appropriate, prescriptions are sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy following a comprehensive evaluation. As a primary care provider, I prescribe medications for many acute and chronic conditions, including high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, thyroid disorders, asthma, allergies, anxiety, depression, women's health, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), weight management, smoking cessation, common skin conditions, and many common infections such as urinary tract infections, strep throat, and sinus infections.

Every treatment plan is individualized and based on your medical history, symptoms, current medications, allergies, and evidence-based clinical guidelines. Please note that certain controlled substances may not be prescribed or may be subject to additional state and federal regulations depending on the state in which you are located.

Do you prescribe antibiotics?

Yes. When medically appropriate, antibiotics can be prescribed following a thorough evaluation. Not every illness requires an antibiotic, as many common conditions—such as colds, the flu, and most viral infections—do not respond to antibiotic treatment. Prescribing antibiotics only when they are truly needed helps reduce unnecessary side effects, lowers the risk of antibiotic resistance, and ensures these medications remain effective when you need them most.

My goal is to provide the safest, most appropriate treatment based on your symptoms, medical history, and current clinical guidelines.

Do you prescribe GLP-1 medications for weight loss?

Yes. We offer comprehensive medical weight management, including evaluation for GLP-1 medications when clinically appropriate.

Your treatment plan may also include nutrition counseling, lifestyle recommendations, lab evaluation, and ongoing follow-up to help you achieve sustainable results.

Do you offer Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)?

Yes. Elevate Wellness provides personalized hormone replacement therapy for women and men experiencing symptoms related to hormonal changes.

Treatment begins with a comprehensive evaluation and may include laboratory testing before creating an individualized treatment plan.

What happens if I need lab work?

We can order laboratory testing electronically to a convenient lab location near you. Once your results are available, we'll review them together during your follow-up visit and explain what they mean.

Can I text my provider?

Yes. Members have access to secure messaging through the patient portal for non-emergency questions, medication concerns, follow-up communication, and other routine healthcare needs. Messages are reviewed and responded to during regular business hours, allowing you to stay connected with your provider without waiting for an office visit. While secure messaging is a convenient way to receive guidance and support, it should not be used for medical emergencies. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

We pride ourselves on timely access to care. Established members are offered same-day or next-day virtual appointments for acute illnesses and urgent medical concerns. Routine follow-up, wellness, and chronic care appointments are typically available within one week. For new patients, we strive to schedule your initial visit and get you established within two weeks of enrollment.

What conditions cannot be treated through telemedicine?

While many primary care concerns can be safely managed through telemedicine, some conditions require an in-person examination, diagnostic testing, procedures, or emergency care. This may include concerns that require imaging, stitches, hands-on evaluation, or other services that cannot be provided virtually. Additionally, some patients with more complex medical conditions or healthcare needs may be better served by an in-person primary care provider. Every patient and situation is reviewed individually, and if telemedicine is not the safest or most appropriate option, I will discuss this with you and help guide you to the appropriate level of care or refer you to an in-person provider when needed.

What if I'm having a medical emergency?

If you are experiencing chest pain, difficulty breathing, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, or another medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department immediately.
